Biography

Alta Mira's surprising rock sound springs from the unlikely suburban locale of Clifton Park in upstate New York. Bassist August Sagehorn, guitarist Hunter Sagehorn, and drummer Tommy Krebs were already developing their distinct melody and rhythmic rock movement when a mutual friend introduced them to lyricist and vocalist Joe Michon-Huneau.

From the outset, the band's ability to create composed and cohesive rock music was apparent.  "We all immediately had chemistry, even though we drew on vastly different influences" said Hunter about the band's first practices.  "Our practice schedule became very steady and our arrangements more intricate."  The band's individual influences include: Jeff Buckley, Andrew Bird, Bjork, The Mars Volta, Ani DiFranco, Tom Waits, Glassjaw, and Radiohead to name a few.

Alta Mira manages to constantly defy conventional stereotypes in the rock genre.  Michon-Huneau resists the commonplace raspy and gravely vocal sound, in favor of melodic range and accuracy. His sensible and accessible lyrics lend him self-reflective honesty and perspective acuity that, when combined with the band's layered music, creates a thought-provoking and stirring atmosphere - whether you're listening to them live, or recorded.  Hunter's rhythmic attacks and nuanced melodies are supplemented by brother August's delivery of timely and harmonic bass runs.  Tommy provides a virtuosic beat foundation for each composition to be built upon.  His beats often fuse and accentuate the song's melody, deviating from a 4/4 cookie-cutter approach to the drums.

By blending their influences, staying open to the creative process, and staying true to their dedication to their music, Alta Mira is refreshing the rock sound and genre to mean much more than an ad on a glossy page.
